What is Startup TOOLS?
Startup TOOLS is an application that integrates with Pro/ENGINEER to both enhance user productivity and provide a simple and powerful tool for managing the Pro/ENGINEER environment. Users benefit through the use of the Toolbox that is integrated in the embedded web browser, while administrators benefit from the Configurator GUI.
How can it help me?
Productivity and Control. The user Toolbox provides productivity through improved efficiency and expanded functionality. The Configurator enhances the administrator's productivity by providing an intuitive and powerful interface for managing a single or multiple environments while also enabling control over these user environment(s).
What are the biggest benefits of the Toolbox?
Multi-Dimension Edit, Parameter Manager and the Graphical Library are three of the biggest assets. Numerous other enhancements such as AutoSave and BOM Export to Excel work together to take some of the most cumbersome and frequent user tasks and either add functionality not present in Pro/ENGINEER alone or greatly simplify the process.
What can the Configurator do for me?
Create and control all of your Pro/ENGINEER environments from a single location with a single application. Batch files are no longer needed to keep config files up to date. Control projects that have unique Pro/ENGINEER load points, license files, start directories, config files, libraries or even template files.
Can my models be used without Startup TOOLS?
Absolutely! The Startup TOOLS Toolbox uses only PTC programs to access the model data. No feature types or information that is outside of core Pro/ENGINEER functionality is added to a model.
What do I need in order to use Startup TOOLS?
Each user will use their existing Pro/ENGINEER workstation. The Configurator, projects and library file are stored on a network attached server.
What are the hardware requirements?
The Startup TOOLS server must be accessible through a network connection from every Pro/ENGINEER workstation via a mapped network drive. The server requires 170 MB or more, depending upon the extent of the library files. Typically, an initial implementation will require about 500 MB.
What are the software requirements?
Startup TOOLS 2007 works with all builds of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0 and 3.0. The Startup TOOLS server requires one of the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Server with SP4, Windows XP Professional with SP2 (32 bit), or Windows XP Professional with SP1 (64 bit). The only requirement for the workstations is that they are supported for the build of Pro/ENGINEER being used.
Can the graphic library and environment be customized to my company standards?
Of course. After installation, the graphical library can be updated through the Toolbox Admin mode, or TriStar can bulk load data for you during an implementation. Implementation will also include setting up your custom environment for such things as your configuration files (config.pro, config.win), template models, and any other Startup TOOLS settings such as those for AutoSave.
Can Startup TOOLS be used with Pro/INTRALINK? With Windchill PDMLink?
Oh yes. Startup TOOLS 2007 integrates with Pro/INTRALINK 3.X and 8.0 as well as PDMLink 8.0. This integration includes accessing the database library through the graphical library interface.
What training is required?
To maximize adoption and minimize the learning curve, users should attend a two hour training session. Depending upon the complexity of the desired environment(s), administrators can usually be trained in two to eight hours.
How do we implement Startup TOOLS?
Startup TOOLS is simple to install and configure and can be implemented in-house if desired. But we do strongly recommend a short consultation to ensure full productivity is achieved in the shortest time possible, especially when there is a desire to implement the graphical library with your existing library. We have the experience and tools to complete the implementation in a fraction of the time it takes when done internally.
What documentation is there?
Startup TOOLS is well-documented with several PDF files that are installed during installation and can be accessed either from the server or through the Toolbox. These files include general user documentation, a configuration manual for administration, and documentation on the Toolbox and toolkit applications.
Do I have to pay maintenance?
No. There are no maintenance fees with Startup TOOLS. Your license is indefinite and there are no further expenses required after purchase. We do regularly (typically, yearly) release a new version of Startup TOOLS that we make available to existing customers at a discounted price; we will contact customers when the new version is available. It's our obligation to prove the upgrade price is worth the new functionality.
How are technical support and updates handled?
Technical support is handled directly by TriStar. You can contact us at either 602-333-1600 or startuptools@tristar.com. If needed, updates can be made available from TriStar's ftp site.
What is the history of Startup TOOLS?
Startup TOOLS began nearly ten years ago as a series of custom Toolkit applications. Since that time it has been refined, enhanced, and packaged into a single application. During that time it has been implemented with over 1500 customers worldwide.
